VSI (vertical shaft impact) sand makers turn surplus aggregate into high-quality manufactured sand and improve the shape of coarse aggregate. Selection depends on feed size and moisture, throughput target and the concrete or asphalt spec you need to meet.
VSIs accept feed up to about 50 mm in rock-on-rock (cascade) mode and up to 80 mm with anvil/rock-on-steel configuration. Pre-screen out fines above the required sand size to maximize efficiency.
VSI output is typically 30-400 t/h depending on rotor size and peripheral speed. Sand ratio (0-5 mm yield) can reach 30-40% when feed is well graded; tell us your required sand tonnage and we size the machine.
Keep feed moisture below about 2-3%; wet feed reduces throughput and can build up inside the rotor. Add dust collection or water spray at transfer points if your plant is in a populated area.
Rotor tips, anvils, distributor plates and wear liners are the consumables. High-chrome and composite materials extend life on abrasive feed. DC supplies matching wear parts for its VSI models.
Manufactured sand for concrete should have controlled gradation, low flakiness and low dust (filler) content. A VSI plus washing screen (DXS sand washer) gives a clean, spec-ready product.
VSIs crush stone-on-stone, giving cubical, well-graded sand with fewer fines; traditional hammer mills produce more flat particles and dust.
Feed is typically 0-50 mm (up to 80 mm in rock-on-steel). Larger feed must be pre-crushed by a jaw/cone or screened first.
With well-graded feed, a VSI commonly converts 30-40% of feed into 0-5 mm sand; the rest is returned or used as coarse aggregate.
If your spec limits dust/fines or clay, yes - a DXS or bucket wheel sand washer removes ultra-fines and improves the sand for concrete.
